Skype-Ready Recording Facilities

Backbeat Studios are Skype-ready for recording, making it possible for our clients to “sit in” for recording sessions without being physically present in the studio.

The improvement in the SVOPC audio codecs used by our Skype setup has a wideband frequency response of 50hz-7khz. This means we can now achieve broadcast-quality audio recording that was previously not possible through telephony connections which typically have a narrow frequency range of 300hz to 3400hz. This has allowed us to tap upon a bigger network of voiceover talents who are based overseas and offer more choices for our clients.

The Secret to the “Backbeat Sound”

Many people hold the misconception that the secret to a good sound is to use a good microphone. In actual fact, good sounds start from having a “good room” — that is the first “gear” of a recording signal chain. If the room sounds bad, a good microphone will only make it worse by accurately capturing how bad the room sounds.

At Backbeat Studios, we invested a lot of time and resources in designing our studios and optimizing them acoustically for voice and music recording, music mixing and live band rehearsals.

Our tracking room was floated as part of the “room within a room” design for isolation. Acoustic panels were installed to control the T60 reverb time of the room to be in the region of 0.40-0.55s , making it suitable for both voiceover and music recording work. It also has a special area with tall ceiling, designed specifically for drums recording.
